梅加拉亚期是地质年代最近的一个“期”或地层学最上的一个“阶 (地层)”，属于第四纪全新世。[1][2][3]名字来自作为全球界线层型剖面和点位 (金钉子)的印度梅加拉亚邦乞拉朋齐的Mawmluh洞穴形成。 [4][5]全球辅助证据来源于加拿大洛根山的冰芯。[6]
梅加拉亚期开始于距今4,200年，即公元前2250年，[7][8][9]4.2千年事件是一场全球范围的持续了200年的干旱事件。[7][9]
2018年7月13日，国际地层委员会更新了国际年代地层表，第四纪的全新世被划分为3个时期，分别是格陵兰期、诺斯格瑞比期和梅加拉亚期。[4][10]
